DESIGN TASK:

You are to research, design and build a ball sorter and then you will evaluate your work.

       * Reminder:
There shall be evidences of you working on the
artefact and e-portfolio in every step of every
  process.

Design Brief:
Design, make and fit a simple device that will sort table tennis balls and marbles. From an elevated bin, the balls and marbles should travel a lane or chute down to another container
a.  The  container or compartment  should have two partitions: one for the table tennis balls and the other for the marbles
b.  Along the lane or chute, the balls and marbles should be able to sort until it reaches the compartment intended for each of them
c.  The artefact should be made of cardboard, illustration board or chipboard
d.  Containers(bin and compartment)should not exceed twenty (20) centimetres in length, width and height
e.  Length of the lane or chute varies depending on the design

CONSTRAINTS AND CONSIDERATIONS:

The Design Brief contains lots of information.

To workout what you have to include in your design make a list of the Constraints and Considerations from the design brief in the table below. When you have filled in your constraints and considerations list number them in order of importance.

TOP FIVE PRIORITIES:

List your top five most important constraints and considerations

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Use your top five to write five questions that you can use to evaluate your work when you have finished your artefact.

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

I. INVESTIGATION

   RESEARCH:
Find some visual examples of ball sorter and assembly techniques and other decorative or construction features that may help you with your design.
Find some pictures on the internet and post them in your e-portfolio. Annotate your pictures explaining in words what you like or don’t like about the designs. An example has been provided below.
----------------------------------------------------
List the resources you have used: e.g. websites or books at the end of your research pages
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I like this design it is very simple, and looks efficient.

BRAIN STORMING DESIGN IDEAS:
On the next pages of your e-portfolio, post some ideas for your design. The drawings should be quick freehand sketches and may be whole or parts of the product.
They need to be in pencil and be very basic drawings.

PREFERRED OPTION:
Choose the better of your designs, post it and explain why it is the best option and how it satisfies the requirements of the design brief.

II. DESIGNING

  WORKING DRAWING:
Show the top, front and side view
Please use pencil and include measurements or post a link if you’re using AutoCAD or Google Sketch Up

Complete a 3D drawing of your design here (isometric or perspective):

IV. EVALUATION

       Think about the outcome
       Does it meet the Design
       Brief?
Does it satisfy the Evaluation Criteria?
       How well does it work?
       Could it be improved?
       What remains to be done?

Prepare reports on the outcomes;
Have the artefact ready to be presented
